The San Diego Padres started life in 1969 as an expansion team. Interestingly, no Padre has ever thrown a no-hitter or hit for the cycle. The Padres currently play in PETCO Park in downtown San Diego. Standout Padre Tony Gwynn was voted the most outstanding player in franchise history. In 20 seasons with the Padres, Gwynn won the batting championship eight times, and hit better than .350 seven times. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez has emerged into one of the best sluggers in the National League.
