The Houston Astros started life in 1962 as the Houston Colt 45's. The name was changed in 1965 to reflect the space industry centered in Houston. The Astros were the first team to play regularly in an indoor stadium on artificial turf. Due to the preponderance of quality players with the last name starting with "B", this group of players (which changed over the years) earned the nickname "Killer B's".
