The Red Sox ended decades of futility by winning their first World Series in nearly 90 years. This drought was made even worse by the (then) 26 championships won by their division rivals, the New York Yankees. In 1941, Ted Williams became the last batter to top .400 (.406) in batting average. Fred Lynn became the first player to win both Rookie of the Year and MVP (in 1975). Roger Clemens won the first 3 of his 7 Cy Young awards with the Red Sox. The team has played in Fenway Park since 1912, making it the oldest ballpark currently in use in the major leagues.
